Halfords Career Pathways

As a result of the diligent discovery undertaken in the preparation of the new EVP and employer brand we had a good understanding of some of the issues in terms of communicating L&D opportunities and career paths within and across Halfords.

The Employer Brand worked in that appealed to a diverse audience and those who wanted to work hard, get stuck in and reap the rewards for doing so.‘Hands on. Switched on. Bring it on!’ was working well for us in the external market but we knew we also needed to bring it to life in internal recruitment collateral including posters for in-store advertising, talent cards and a career path booklet which showed how far a career with Halfords could take you.

In so doing we had to overcome some of the ‘not for me’, ‘it’s too hard’ ‘I don’t know how’ and other blockages. Every colleague should feel invested in. More than that every colleague should realise their next job is in Halfords not outside – and how to secure it. And, critically, we wanted more females moving into management training programmes.

The new and memorable employer brand is packed full of energy and possibility and accurately conveys the employment experience. The internal recruitment collateral and career pathing literature, work well and provides a genuine return on investment to Halfords – not just in lower attrition but in people seeing and signing up for the next step on their newly realised future in Halfords.
